Sparkling all through the park (20 photos)

See the lights by car or on foot. Fireworks coming.

The sparkling has begun!

The Rotary Club of Guelph’s Sparkles in the Park is back. The lights are now set up and illuminating Riverside Park.

The brilliant and sprawling display of festive luminosity runs from the park’s main entrance all the way down to the exit. It is observable from a vehicle, or by taking the park and walk approach. One way or the other, it is bedazzling.

Following Saturday’s opening night display, there are now plenty of trails through the park’s deep snow. Donations are collected nightly near the entrance.

It began on Saturday evening and will run nightly until Saturday, Dec. 31. There are free carousel rides in the evenings starting on Dec. 23.

On New Years Eve, the last night of the event, there will be a big celebration, with the annual fireworks display at 8 p.m.

Especially dazzling for children, the annual event features a very colourful and fanciful elf house, an electric scene of Santa Claus riding a motorcycle into the sky, a choo choo train adorned with colourful lights, a pair of wrestling bears, and a few prancing reindeer.

The entrance to Riverside Park is at 709 Woolwich Street.
