St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph (SJHCG) has received from Accreditation Canada a rating of Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, the highest award a Canadian healthcare provider can receive, for scoring a remarkable 100 per cent on meeting the criteria of the more than 1,500 standard practices evaluated during the onsite accreditation survey executed Nov. 28-30, 2016.

“Only one in five healthcare providers that undergo the accreditation process manages to obtain this prestigious award,” said David Wormald, President of SJHCG. “Achieving Accreditation with Exemplary Standing in 2012 and now again in 2016 is an amazing accomplishment that speaks to the complete and total commitment of our staff, physicians, volunteers, leadership team, and Board of Trustees.”

Accreditation Canada is an independent, not for profit, national organization that sets standards for quality and safety in healthcare and accredits organizations in Canada and around the world based on how well they meet those standards.

They work with healthcare organizations to help them improve quality, safety, and efficiency so they can offer the best possible care and service.

“Accreditation is a genuine opportunity for us to evaluate our care, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate our achievements,” said Wormald. “Following their review, the survey team had notable praise for St. Joe’s in a number of areas, including our collaborative and integrated approach to care, quality, safety, ethics, health system partnerships, and our lived mission and values.”

Wormald noted that, while preparing for Accreditation is known to be a long and arduous process, it was much less so this time around.

“Undoubtedly, our Quality Director who led the process, her team, and all the staff put great effort into organizing materials, policies, and processes to ensure easy access for review by the surveyors; however, everyone has done an outstanding job at maintaining the successes achieved through the process of our last Accreditation in 2012. It’s about sustainability; ensuring continuity of safe and quality care at all times.”

Paul Elliott, Chair of the SJHCG Board, voiced his congratulations to all of the leaders, staff, physicians, and volunteers on behalf of the Trustees, “I am enormously proud of, and grateful to, every individual who works, volunteers, or provides services at St. Joe’s. This is a wonderful achievement and is confirmation of what we know to be the tremendous work that St. Joe's Guelph does day in and day out. Clearly, their dedication and commitment to the provision of high quality client and family centered care was experienced and recognized by the surveyors.”
