Local storm chaser Bailey Allard will be one of three keynote speakers at a free storm chaser workshop this Saturday.

The event is open to the public and takes place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wellington County Museum and Archives located between Fergus and Elora.

It is being hosted by Wellington County Emergency Management and the museum.

Saturday's event coincides with The Storm Chaser, an exhibit of Allard's photos and video that she has captured over the years chasing storms. The display runs until May 7.

Emergency Services' Heather Lawson said it's the first time they have held such a workshop.

"We do a lot of our public education around weather and when we heard that the exhibit was coming to the museum we thought 'that's a great opportunity to work with our partners and see how it goes'," Lawson said of the museum.

Kyle Smith, program assistant at the museum, and Geoff Coulson, a meteorologist with Environment Canada for the past 33 years, are the other speakers.

"It's general interest. Kyle Smith will be talking about past weather. Bailey Allard will be showing a bunch of photographs of tornadoes and a video she has of a tornado and Geoff Coulson will be talking about the science behind weather: how to look at cloud formations and what different cloud mean," Lawson said.

Lawson said they expect around 50 people to attend the event.
