NEWS RELEASE

UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Last week, a group of 31 students from the Upper Grand District School Board and 10 students from the Wellington Catholic District School Board travelled to Saint-Donat, Québec, for a four-day immersion experience.

This is the sixth annual trip for UGDSB students to Saint-Donat and the fourth for WCDSB students.

The students represented eight different schools: Centre Wellington DHS, Centennial CVI, Erin DHS, Guelph CVI, Orangeville DSS, Wellington Heights SS, St. James Catholic SS and Bishop MacDonnell Catholic SS.

Every winter, hundreds of students participate in a full French immersion experience in Saint-Donat under the expert guidance of “les animateurs” and “les moniteurs” of the tour operator “Perspectives Eduscho Ltd.”

Students took part in activities such as a music and drumming workshop, learning traditional Québecois legends, skating, skiing and showshoeing.

A trip like this allows students to live the language and culture outside the classroom; it is unique.

The dynamic group leaders encourage everyone to participate, to make an effort and to have fun.

This trip is open to all secondary students enrolled in an FSL program. Information and applications will be available in all high schools in September.
