Terry Copp opens annual Military Lecture Series at museum

Guelph Museums and Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies have announced the first speakers for the 2018-2019 Military Lecture Series at Guelph Civic Museum.

The series begins Thursday, Sept. 27 when Terry Copp presents “Cities in Crisis: Montreal and Guelph in 1918. How citizens of Canadian cities responded to the challenges of the First World War.” Copp is a Canadian military historian and Professor Emeritus at Wilfrid Laurier University and is Director of the Laurier Centre for Military and Strategic Disarmament Studies.

Thursday, Oct. 18, award-winning Canadian military author Tim Cook will talk about “The Secret History of Soldiers: How Canadians Survived the Great War”.

Roger Sarty presents “The Canadian Garrison Artillery Goes to War, 1914-1918” Thursday, Nov. 15. Sarty is among Canada’s leading historians, specializing in the history of Canada’s Navy and coastal defence.

The series continues in January 2019. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with lectures beginning at 7 p.m. Admission for the lectures is by donation.

Guelph Civic Museum is located at 52 Norfolk, Guelph.
