The Art of Living: Mind Body Heart Soul with Joanne Hill

Welcome to The Art of Living, a monthly column that may inspire you to create a newfound spaciousness in your life, one in which you will feel more open, connected, and begin to experience a growing fulfillment in life. Maybe even find some time enough for you!

In my writing, I will invite you to question your life with a greater level of passion and intention, with more wonder, awe and a new level of curiosity. A falling in love with life, if you will.

For anyone thinking this will be a positive thinking column, you will be disappointed.

My idea of learning to love life, is to love it as it presents itself, in all its messy, painful, sad ways, and yet feel equal to confronting it in the best possible way.  This is not easy, but it is all we have.

We must admit it, we all want to feel good, be happy, avoid suffering, yet much of our suffering comes from wanting things to be different, to work in our favor.  There is so much more!

I would like to remind you of the places in your life where you might find more of your own unique and true nature, or the you that you have forgotten to love.  Allow yourself to simply “be” more present to the being deep inside yourself that needs a little more attention or growing room.

As humans we need to live integrated, whole, healthy and authentic lives, yet, we are living in times where any sense of balance is most challenging.  We have become more and more fragmented as we deal with the urgency mindset of technology, heavy workloads, impossible schedules and a culture in which busyness is glorified. We are missing out on the many aspects of life that express and fulfill our basic humanity.

A little self -care really can provide us with bringing back that “lovin’ feeling”!

Allow yourself to create a little space in your day or your week, even if only for a few moments to seek out a time for stillness and silence. Allow it to be a remembering time.

In this space you may find ways in which to remember yourself as a precious being, in a much broader and larger perspective, one that reminds you of your place in the world that is outside of your schedule or to do list.

This remembering may speak your connection to music, faith, nature or art.  It may be the strong bond to your loved ones, pets and humankind. It is where you may find the best of yourself.

It has been my life’s work for a number of years to inspire individuals towards living more vital and authentic lives. With each column I hope to bring you a relevant theme that helps you question and respond in ways that may provide you with a richer knowledge of yourself, so that you may find it easier to access your inner life and innate wisdom.

I may focus on breath, meditation, relaxation and /or creativity, joy, music or poetry. There are so many ways “in” to our inner landscapes.

About me? I am a personal/corporate life coach, yoga and meditation teacher, and public speaker. My subject is Life – it has been one of my lifelong fascinations.

I love beauty, yoga, privacy, my dog, and two cats. For the most part, I am a little obsessed with my grandchildren. My partner, Stanley and I work hard each day to actively support and love one another, and our families.

I am full of gratitude. I am so blessed to do what I love. I also carry grief, sorrow and doubt as close companions. Nevertheless, my friends can find me funny.

Kahlil Gibran was right – joy and sorrow are often times inseparable.

My writings for you are intended to be suggestive and heart opening, and not instructive, as the inner journey is to be guided, not taught.

If there is one word or sentence here that speaks to your heart and soul, my heart will be humbly pleased.

Until we meet again, allow yourself to travel inward, as much of what you will find inside may greet you with peace and inspiration for life.
