Wellington County’s Economic Development department officially unveiled the first sign of their “This Way to Wellington” signage plan at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Puslinch on Monday, Oct. 2. The sign is the first of 31 gateway signs to be installed on key perimeter roads across Wellington County this fall.

The “This Way to Wellington” signage plan is a three-phase strategy that is being implemented to offer a consistent visual communication system throughout Wellington County, in an effort to enhance tourism, visitor experience, and resident pride.

“While our member municipalities have developed strong identities in their respective communities, the County lacks a similar profile” said Wellington County Warden Dennis Lever. “The implementation of the signage plan will promote Wellington County’s identity, improve the visibility of our borders, and encourage exploration of our key attractions.”

The signage plan was developed after the need for a coordinated signage system was identified in the County’s 2012 Wellington Economic Development Strategy and the 2014 Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) project.

The County established an open process for this project, and the Signage Plan was developed with key insights from meetings with County staff, focus group sessions, stakeholder interviews and over 400 responses from an online public survey.

“These new signs are a chance to differentiate ourselves from our neighbours, show our pride of identity, and help navigate folks in and around the County in a safe and effective manner,” said Economic Development Chair, Councillor George Bridge.

Phase 2 of the “This Way to Wellington” signage plan is scheduled to begin in November of this year, and involves implementing directional tourism signage. In this phase, tourism based businesses buy into the programme to participate.

More information on the signage plan can be found online or at 519-837-2600 ext. 2614.
