Traffic stop results in drug, weapon charges for Guelph man

A Guelph man faces weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

Approximately 3:20 p.m. officers were patrolling in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Greengate Road when they spotted a man known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for taking a motor vehicle without consent.

A traffic stop was conducted and the man arrested on the warrant. During a search incident to arrest, police recovered a credit card knife and two spring-assisted knives, all of which are prohibited weapons under the Criminal Code of Canada. Also seized was a quantity of suspected LSD, fentanyl and cocaine as well as a stolen credit card and blank cheque.

A 41-year-old man is further charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, two counts of possessing a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possessing stolen property and driving while suspended. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
