Meadowview Avenue is one of many quaint, narrow, tree-lined streets in Guelph. And it has a particularly nice assortment of covered porches for taking in the pleasant view, or, as the case may be, listening to a variety of live musical acts.

A couple of Meadowview porches will be repurposed as stages this Saturday as the Junction Neighbourhood Group turns them into music venues for Junction Porchfest! The event is described as a music-filled community porch party with a decidedly neighbourhood feel. The porches are within a few steps of each other.

The music starts at 1 p.m. at 47 Meadowview, and the performances alternate back and forth between 41 and 47 Meadowview. The 41 venture has both its front and back porches involved.

The music runs until 5 p.m. and includes, in performing order, singer-songwriter Dan Pharoah, acoustic trio Callisto, the socially-lyrical Marty Collier and Friends, the hypnotic Carley Rawes, folk singer byron, the eclectic, folksy Nicole Ensing Band, fingerpicking Russell Scott, the experimental folk-rock of Sam Boer, and the driving soul of Dan McLean Jr.

Local community radio station CFRU will be on the street, recording and broadcasting through their mobile studio. Laza Catering, known for its Eritrean and Ethiopian dishes, will have food for sale.

There will also be activities for children, including puppeteer Pandora’s Sox.

All are welcome to attend the free event. Find it on Meadowview between Waterloo and Allan avenues. The event happens whether it rains or shines.

The Junction Neighbourhood Group represents an area of the city that borders Paisley Road to the north, Edinburgh Road to the east, Wellington Road to the south, and the Hanlon Expressway to the west. It is one of many such groups in Guelph.

One of its goals is to create opportunities for neighbours to meet and get to know each other, and to host events like Porchfest! that foster a safe, healthy, fun and inclusive neighbourhood.
