Guelph police report that three people were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph over the weekend, including two who were involved in collisions and fled the scene.

Just before 11 p.m. Friday, police were notified of a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Paisley Road and Edinburgh Road North. Officers arrived and found a female standing outside a vehicle. She was in obvious distress due to her vehicle sustaining damage. Officers noted damage to the front end, both passenger-side tires were flat and there were leaves and branches embedded in the exterior and bottom of the vehicle.

Subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle had left the road in the area of Paisley Road and Silvercreek Parkway North, travelling more than 80 metres and driving through a hedge and across two lawns before swerving back onto the road.

On Sunday, approximately 1:40 a.m., police were called to a report of a hit and run on Willow Road near Imperial Road North. A witness reported a vehicle colliding with a parked vehicle and driving off.

Officers responded and located pieces of the suspect vehicle on scene. At the same time, another call was received about a damaged vehicle driving on a bare rim nearby. Officers were able to locate and stop the damaged vehicle and immediately noticed a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. He was arrested and taken to the police station where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a report of a possibly impaired female sleeping in a vehicle in the area of Willow Road and Dawson Road. Officers arrived and found a female asleep in a running vehicle. The female was showing signs of being impaired by a drug and was arrested.

Testing at the police station suggested the female was impaired by a drug and she agreed to provide a urine sample for further analysis.

A search of the vehicle subsequent to arrest revealed several baggies of suspected cocaine as well as several empty baggies and two small scales.

A 34-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired operation and possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking.
