Two young drivers police say were going way too fast

Both have been charged with racing
speeding highway

TOWN OF MINTO – On May 21, 2016 at approximately 7:37 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling Wellington Road 109 near Concession 14, Town of Minto and observed a male driving westbound in a 2006 Volkswagen well above the posted speed limit. 

It was locked on radar at approximately 144 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.

24-year-old Daniel Szafran of Mississauga has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on June 15, 2016.

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP – On May 23, 2016 at approximately 9:05 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling Highway 6 near Side Road 15, Centre Wellington Township and observed a man driving a 2003 Acura well above the posted speed limit. 

The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 131 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.

21-year-old Jesse Stein of Stoney Creek has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on July 6, 2016.
