The UGDSB has elected a new board chair, Ralf Mesenbrink, the trustee for Ward 2, 3 and 4.
The position is a one-year term and ends on Nov. 14. 2023.
This is Mesenbrink’s first time as chair and he was elected as trustee during the school board elections in October 2022.
“Together we as a board and an organization have some big tasks ahead of us, and the work starts right away,” said Mesenbrink, in a press release as his first remarks to address the board.
He looks to focus on the board’s multi-year plan, construction of two new schools, address learning gaps for students and will hire a human rights advisor.
“These are significant tasks,” said Mesenbrink, “but working through them together will reward us as individuals, as a team, as an organization, and will benefit the community.”
Director of education at the UGDSB, Peter Sovran, congratulated Mesenbrink on his new position as chair.
“I am looking forward to working together to realize ‘Vision 2026’ as outlined in our new multi-year plan, and to our ongoing commitment to all UGDSB students, staff, families and communities,” said Sovran in a press release.
