On Nov. 28, 2019, the Guelph Fire Department (GFD) responded to a reported fire alarm activation. On arrival, GFD units were directed to the third floor for a smell of smoke. GFD entered an apartment unit finding heavy smoke, the result of unattended cooking.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished by Guelph Fire.

The apartment was quickly searched by firefighters with no one being found. The specific unit and the remainder of the building were ventilated, allowing the residents to return to their units.

The Guelph Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the dangers relating to unattended cooking; particularly over the holiday season.
