University of Guelph students can expect a sense of normalcy on campus this fall.

Gwen Chapman, the U of G’s interim vice-president, said the university plans to offer as many many face-to-face classes, labs and student experiences as possible.

She said positive developments with the vaccine rollout and recent advice from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health gives the university confidence to plan for a vibrant on-campus experience.

“In short, I am delighted to say that our students, faculty and staff can count on being on campus this fall!” said Chapman in the letter.

Attempts to get further comment from the U of G were not immediately successful.

Chapman said the university is planning to offer face-to-face classes for most courses and anticipates that some faculty will use remote technology that have proven to be effective this past year.

She also added that  the university is planning a range of student activities that include athletics, student wellness, experiential learning, career development and student housing.

The university’s student experience team is also organizing an orientation week to welcome students back on campus.

“We are also making plans based on what public health experts predict the situation will be in September, not where we are today,” said Chapman adding that U of G’s top priority is the health and wellness of the campus community.

She said the university expects some health and safety measures to still be in place in September.

“I want to recognize the extraordinary achievements and hard work of our faculty, staff and students in meeting the challenges of this past year. I am so grateful to you for your ongoing commitment to research and teaching excellence and to our university community,” said Chapman.

“Working together, we will help ensure that the University is ready to safely welcome people back to our campuses come September.”
