Unknown substance located at Fergus dog park

Police in Wellington County are warning dog owners to keep a close eye on their pooches after what appeared to be dog kibble tainted with an unknown substance was discovered in a Fergus dog park.

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON – On January 31, 2016 at approximately 10:42 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a concerned pet owner advising that she had located suspicious looking dog food at the dog park on Glengarry Crescent in Fergus, Centre Wellington Township.

The complainant advised that she was walking her dog in the park when she observed several blue patches in the snow along the tree line that contained white pellets that looked like dog kibble.

Police along with a Township employee attended the park and cleaned up the areas. 

It is unknown what the substance was.

Wellington County OPP suggests keeping your dog on a leash at all times and maintain a visual on it. 

Do not let it eat anything that you are not feeding it and to call 1-888-310-1122 if you observe anything suspicious.
