VIDEO: Fatal altercation at Tony's Billiards released

Closing submissions are expected Friday in the trial of Aidan and Angus Kee, charged in the death of Nick Tanti

Warning: The following story contains video and details that some may find upsetting.

For the first time, video of the fatal altercation between Aidan Kee and Nick Tanti has been released to the public.

The video was taken by a security camera across the street from Tony's Billiards and depicts the four-minute sequence where Tanti exits the pool hall to confront Aidan and Angus Kee after they passed by the window, up to the point court heard Aidan is told to leave the scene.

This, as the focus of the trial turns to the lawyers and the 13-member jury (one member was dismissed due to medical reasons).

Witnesses are finished. The Crown and defense will both present their closing submissions Friday, before the jury is expected to begin deliberations Monday.

Aidan, 28, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Nick Tanti on February 29, 2020. Angus, 24, faces a charge of accessory after the fact manslaughter.

Angus had been charged with manslaughter, but it was dropped Monday after multiple witnesses for the Crown testified Angus was trying to break up the fight.

The Crown brought 21 witnesses to the stand in the first two weeks.

Workers at Onyx Nightclub detailed how Tanti was banned after being involved in a violent fight on January 11, 2020, and Tanti's return to the club twice, including the night of the incident.

Workers at Tony's Billiards and friends of both Tanti and Aidan testified about the night in question, as it pertains to both of their whereabouts and the fatal altercation in front of Tony's.

They also brought up officers and paramedics that were on scene Feb. 29, and the forensic pathologist who supervised the autopsy of Tanti's body.

Only Aidan testified on behalf of the defense, arguing the stabbing was not intentional.

Aidan told the jury Monday he doesn't recall when the knife pierced the chest of Tanti, which went deep enough to open what court heard was a 1.7 centimetre hole in his heart.

The lawyers and Justice Gordon Lemon will deal with procedural matters until Friday.
