Village By The Arboretum's annual food drive delivers again

Collects 1,700 pounds of food and $13,000 in cash for Guelph Food Bank

The annual Eat N Sweet one day food drive at the Village By The Arboretum community collected 1,700 pounds of food and $13,000 in cash donations in just 90 minutes last Friday.

The event is put on by 40 volunteers, many in Halloween costumes, who pick up cheques and food donations from porches and collection areas throughout the village, located on Stone Road.

Pauline Cripps, the administrator for the Guelph Food Bank was overwhelmed by the response, said a news release on the event.

“Wow!“ she said, “We are so grateful for the support of the Village community.“

Cripps added that, because of the pandemic, the fall city-wide food drive was still over 30,000 pounds short of its target, coming at a time when food security is our city  is on the rise.

“This donation will go a long way in helping us to reach our goal”
