Water Watchers rally/march planned Monday to protest water taking

Shane Philips will lead a walk on Monday June 7 to the Aberfoyle bottling plant to renew Wellington Water Watchers opposition to permits to take water for bottling.  Over the course of the following week Shane will walk to the Middlebrook well and the Hillsburgh well to meet local residents opposed to Triton Water Holdings Canada Inc. application for a ten-year permit to take water for bottling.
 
Monday’s walk to the Aberfoyle bottling plant occurs on the second anniversary of the cease-and-desist order issued by the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Council to Nestle´ Waters Canada.
 
Shane will begin his walk outside of Guelph City Hall, downtown Guelph. Shane will stop at 2162 Gordon Street to unveil a new billboard (See attached picture) and continue to the Aberfoyle bottling plant.

Shane’s walk is the first stage in the ‘Ear to the Groundwater’ tour where he will visit a number of communities in southwestern Ontario to learn about threats posed by water-bottling, aggregate extraction and development to groundwater.

Shane Philips is a singer/songwriter and Guelph resident who has walked from Guelph to Queen’s Park in Toronto in previous years to show his public opposition to Nestle Waters Canada water taking.
·       Makasa Looking Horse and Rod Whitlow of Six Nations on the Grand will participate in the walk.
·       Mike Schreiner, Guelph MPP and Leader, Green Party of Ontario will speak at the beginning of the walk.
·       Sandy Shaw NDP Environment Critic (MPP Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas) will speak and join Shane Philips on the Walk.
·       The number of people participating in the walk will conform with public health guidelines)

9 a.m. – Wellington Water Watchers 42 Carden Street, Guelph
11:30 a.m. – Billboard Location - 2162 Gordon Street
12:30 p.m. – Aberfoyle bottling Plant 101 Brock Road South. Puslinch
