Waterloo regional councillors are set to consider a proposal for an airport shuttle at the Region of Waterloo International Airport when they meet Wednesday night.

A contract with Voyago would provide a two-bus service transporting passengers to the terminal from the newly built parking lot, once it officially opens in the fall.

The shuttle service could carry 22 people at once, and is also wheelchair accessible. It would cost the region an estimated $800,000 per year.

Plans for the shuttle service come alongside the ongoing expansion of the Region of Waterloo International Airport in Breslau, between Guelph and Kitchener, and a big uptick in demand for local air travel this year.

Around 700,000 passengers are expected to travel through the airport this year.
