Most of the confirmed COVID cases in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph as of late involve unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people, says public health.

For June 20 to July 31, public health looked at 221 positive cases of COVID-19 and found 13 involve fully vaccinated individuals, with partially vaccinated people in 80 cases. In 128 cases, public health noted individuals reported being unvaccinated.

This information comes as the province is planning to revise the data it releases regarding the pandemic.

The province's daily reports now include the vaccination status of new cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions.

Going forward, the province will provide a breakdown of the new cases, indicating how many are fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated and unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Danny Williams, communications specialist with WDG Public Health, said similar localized data will be routinely made public in the coming weeks.

According to Alexandra Hilkene, spokesperson for the minister of health, this shift reflects the province's focus on hospitalizations and vaccinations as the COVID pandemic continues.
