Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health surpassed its target of fully vaccinating 75 per cent of the eligible population in the area.
As of Thursday morning, WDG Public Health reported 203,212 residents received two doses of the COVID vaccine which amounts to 73.3 per cent of the eligible population over the age of 12.
WDG Public Health's goal was to vaccinate at least 75 per cent of its eligible population with at least one vaccine dose by June.
Currently, 82.5 percent of the eligible population, which amounts to 222,494 residents, has received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine making the total number of vaccines administered to 421,120.
“Passing the 75 per cent threshold of eligible adults who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine is an unequivocal success that belongs to our entire region. We should be proud of our shared commitment to one another," said Danny Williamson, communications coordinator at WDG Public Health.
"However, this is another milestone and not our final destination. More than 17 per cent of those eligible in the region have yet to get even a first dose of a vaccine and children under 12 are not yet approved for vaccination. We must keep pushing those numbers as high as we can. Every dose that gets administered is another step toward protecting our community against COVID.”
WDG Public Health clinics vaccinated 44 percent of the eligible population, primary care providers vaccinated 4 per cent, pharmacies vaccinated 18 per cent and partner led clinics vaccinated 33 per cent.
Eighty one per cent of the eligible population in Guelph is now fully vaccinated, 70 per cent of the eligible population in Dufferin County is fully vaccinated and 70 per cent of the eligible population in Wellington County is fully vaccinated.
WDG Public Health reported one new COVID case on Thursday, bringing the number of active cases in the region to 17.
