The 2019 Royal City Bike Rodeo took place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Exhibition Park Arena. This year’s event was the inaugural year for the event and we’re hopeful that it can be continued for future years.

The event was co-sponsored by the Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation (GCAT), Guelph Off-Road Bicycling Association (GORBA), the City of Guelph, and the Guelph Police Service.

The Guelph Police Service School Safety Officers ran a fun and challenging bicycle agility course for children in Grades 4 and 5. The event’s purpose was to educate children to become confident and safer cyclists, practice the rules of the road and practice hand signals. Children received immediate feedback in a positive manner to help them improve their cycling skills. Each participant received a bag that contained donated items and a Certificate of Completion signed by the Chief of Police, Chief Cobey.

The event included each cyclist’s bicycle receiving a pre-ride mechanical safety check as well as a proper bicycle helmet fitting. Also members of the Guelph Off Road Bicycling Association (GORBA) set up a fun outdoor off-road agility and skills area for cyclists to try their off-road abilities.

The event was a success with over 50 City of Guelph children attending.

Thanks to all volunteers from all of the organizations who co-sponsored the event, Dave and Graham who provided the mechanical safety checks, Guelph Wellington Paramedics Service, who had two Paramedic cyclists on site to assist with the event, retired Guelph Police Officers, Officer Attila and Officer Robin who assisted with the course setup and Speed River Bicycle who provided each participant with a free bell for their bicycle.
