Bus cancellations won't necessarily mean school closures this year at Guelph and Wellington County schools.

The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) have both released inclement weather procedures for this winter indicating schools will remain open even if transportation is cancelled.

In the Upper Grand board, Centre Peel Public School and Kenilworth Public School are exceptions.

"In all other UGDSB schools (elementary and secondary), schools will remain open for all students who can get there safely," the Upper Grand board said in a media release, indicating the move was a return to pre-pandemic protocols.

Students affected by bus cancellations who are unable to attend in-person will be supported in their learning through activities provided by their teacher on Google Classroom, the release continued.

Meanwhile WCDSB said in the case where buses are cancelled but schools remain open, "parents should always assess weather and road conditions and make their own decision as to whether or not to send their children to school under the current and expected forecasted weather conditions."

Decisions about bus cancellations or school closures generally occur by 6:15 a.m. and are posted to the posted to the Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS) website and Twitter account.
