On Wednesday, April 17th at 7:15pm at 10C Carden St (42 Carden Street), three wildlife road crossing experts will be launching the Clair-Maltby Speakers' Series hosted by the Protect Our Moraine Coalition (www.protectourmoraine.ca).

The Protect Our Moraine is bringing together three wildlife crossings leaders in Ontario and North America for a discussion on how to plan for, implement and monitor viable wildlife crossing in the Clair-Maltby - Guelph's portion of the ecological sensitive Paris-Galt Moraine.

The three speakers include:

Kari Gunson, road ecologist for Eco-Kare consulting who has worked on road mitigation projects for over 18 years. Kari  has provided expertise for the design, placement and monitoring of vehicular mitigation projects througout North America. In partnership with Fred Schueler, Kari recently published the first in-depth handbook entitled "Wildlife on Roads" on the emerging science of road ecology. Kari will examine best practices in wildlife crossing that could be applied to Clair-Maltby.

Casey Cook, Coordinator in Community Engagement and Outreach Division of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) will speak to innovative partnerships between the TRCA, citizen-led scientists and the City of Brampton on the successful Heart Lake Road Project.

Mandy Karch, Executive Director, Ontario Road Ecology Group will discuss road ecology policies and guidelines in Ontario and review solutions to mitigate the threats of roads to wildlife.

The City of Guelph is an emerging municipal leader in wildlife crossings - with recent successes on Maltby Road and Eastview Road. The speakers look forward to contributing to an engaging community conversation on how to build viable wildlife crossing in the Clair-Maltby section of the Paris-Galt Moraine.

For more information or to schedule and interview with the speakers, please contact Mike Marcolongo: [email protected] or 226-820-0063.
