Just how much did a Halloween haunted house raise for for the hospital?

Who said zombies don't have a heart?

The Unit 6 Haunted House Zombie Containment Unit — a Halloween event planned, organized and executed by 17-year-old Kurtis Lammer, raised $40,865 for Guelph General Hospital.

Two years in the making, the Halloween event was opened several days in October and attracted big crowds.

The hospital said the amount was a new record for the most funds raised for the hospital by a single third-party event.

"I never expected it to get this big, but the response from the community has been amazing," Lammer said in a press release.

Ever dollar raised at the event, which was held at vacant tennis courts at 75 Dublin St. N., went to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital.

Lammer presented the cheque to the hospital last week.

Lammer gave much credit to his very large crew of dedicated volunteers including zombie actors, make-up artists and ticket sellers. He also credited his sponsors, Balnar Management Ltd., Intrigue Media, Meridian Credit Union, and VanHarten Surveying Inc.
