The University of Guelph is proud to welcome two-time Stanley Cup champion and mental health advocate Daniel Carcillo as he presents his Uncharted: A Mental Health Awareness Speaking Tour.

When: Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020. 4-5 p.m.
Where: Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, W.F. Mitchell Gym
Cost: Free. No registration required

Carcillo played nine seasons in the NHL and helped the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015. He retired due to mental health issues and post-concussion syndrome.

Since his retirement, he has become a mental health advocate and spoken openly about his mental health struggles and how he overcame them.

He has also established a non-profit organization called the Chapter 5 Foundation, which is dedicated to helping athletes who are struggling with post-concussion syndrome, anxiety, or depression.

During the appearance, Carcillo will tell his story of mental illness and brain injury and how they have affected his life. He will then explain how brain injuries sustained during sport can create long-term effects on mental health.

Carcillo aims to educate listeners on the different ways they can help their own mental well-being for free or at very little cost, as well as the resources available to them.
