KINGSTON — Eric Stranz found redemption in overtime Thursday night, booting a 26-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Gryphons to a 27-24 win over Queen's.

Stranz had missed a 40-yard field goal attempt with time running out in regulation that would have won the game.

With the win the fifth-ranked Gryphons improve to 5-2 on the season.

A four-yard run by wide receiver Kiondre Smith, on a reverse, had Guelph up early, but it was a back-and-forth contest after that.

Queen's led 14-7 at the half, with Stranz making it 14-10 early in the third quarter with a field goal.

Guelph took the lead late in the third quarter, capping off an 85-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Theo Landers.

Queen's held a 24-17 lead midway through the fourth quarter on a 25-yard catch-and-run by Smith.

Landers finished the game 19 of 28 passing for 224 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Juwan Jeffery led the way on the ground with 24 rushes for 150 yards and Smith finished as the Gryphon's leading receiver for the game with three receptions or 49 yards and one touchdown to go with his rushing touchdown.

Guelph plays in Toronto on Oct. 19 against the Varsity Blues.
