Gryphons drop the ball in Hamilton

HAMILTON - The McMaster Marauders scored a pair of third quarter touchdowns to fuel a 27-15 win over the Guelph Gryphons Saturday.

With the loss the Gryphons fall to 2-4 on the season.

They have a bye week next weekend. Their next game is Friday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Wilfrid Laurier.

A safety and field goal staked Hamilton to an early 5-0 lead after the first quarter, but Gryphon quarterback James Roberts plunged over from one yard out in the second quarter to give Guelph a 7-5 lead at the half.

After a safety, McMaster scored on a one yard run by Chris Pezzetta and a 10-yard pass from Asher Hastings to Dan Vandervoort to take a 21-7 lead into the final quarter.

Mac got a pair of field goals in that final quarter and Guelph got a safety and 19 yard touchdown pass from Roberts to Jordan Terrio.

Roberts completed 20 of 34 passes for 258 yards with one interception.

Guelph ran for 103 net yards, led by Johnny Augustine’s 109 yards on 20 carries.

Terrio was the top receiver, catching five passes for 86 yards.

Guelph was flagged for 18 penalties totaling 125 yards in the loss compared to 10/72 for Hamilton.
