Josh Dixon has been named head coach of the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team.

The Guelph Gryphons have found a new coach for its men's hockey program.

Josh Dixon has been selected to replace Shawn Camp, who retired following his 16th season with the team in the spring.

Dixon is coming off two seasons as an associate coach with the Prince George Cougars (WHL). Before that, he spent three seasons as head coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL).

Other stops on his nine-year tour of the Canadian Hockey League include the Regina Pats (associate coach) and Swift Current Broncos (assistant coach) of the WHL.

He's no stranger to U SPORTS, having spent eight years in assistant and associate coaching positions with Carleton University, the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University.

All the while, Dixon has represented Canada on a number of occasions as either a head or assistant coach at the under-16, under-17 and under-20 level.

"It is an honour to join the University of Guelph Gryphons and such an impressive athletics department with an established tradition of success, both in student-athlete development and experience in addition to championship achievement at both the provincial and national levels," Dixon said in a news release.

"I look forward to the opportunity to lead the men's hockey program back to national prominence and be a part of the excellent culture the Gryphons have created."

Dixon also worked as the director of player development for the hockey division at Creative Artists Agency. He's worked with over 40 current NHL players either in his role at CAA or as a coach, including eight members of Vegas' Stanley Cup winning team).

Dixon, who lives in Georgetown, begins his new role July 17.
