Guelph cyclist strikes gold at Pan Am Games

Kiara Lylyk was part of women's team pursuit win in Chile

The whirlwind continues for a Guelph cyclist.

Kiara Lylyk captured gold at the Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile, as part of the women's team pursuit event Wednesday.

The team of four finished with a time of four minutes and 23 seconds, seven seconds ahead of the second place Mexico.

Lylyk previously told GuelphToday she was called up to participate just three weeks ago.

"Congratulations @KiaraLylyk and team Canada!!," Kiara's dad Dave posted on X shortly after the win.

"You have represented our city and our country (amazingly)," mayor Cam Guthrie said in a video posted to X.

Guelph's Stephen Harris finished just short of the podium in rowing.

He was part of the mixed eight rowing squad that finished fourth with a time of five minutes and 58.70 seconds. It was less than half a second back of Cuba for third place.

Harris also placed fifth in the men's lightweight double sculls event.
