House league hockey players from all around the city are about to take part in their most anticipated weekend of the year.

The Guelph Minor Hockey Association’s House League championships run this Saturday and Sunday at the University of Guelph arena, and the public is invited to come watch. Both rinks will be in use.

Over 40 teams, in multiple age divisions from under-9 to under-18, will battle to be the best in their age group.

The quarterfinal and semifinal games take place on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

The U9 and U18’s then will partake in a special skills competition at 3:30 p.m. on the gold rink.

A free family skate at 7:30 p.m. wraps up the day, complete with complimentary hot chocolate in the lobby, and the Gryph’s Snack Shack will be open.

Consolation and championship games take place on Sunday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Throughout the weekend, the Hockey Hall of Fame will be there, including “NHL legends and hometown heroes from the NHL.”

Names for those attending have not been released.

There will also be interactive games for the whole family on the upper level of the arena.

The University of Guelph Craft Kitchen and Ale House is also taking reservations, including team reservations, and you’re asked to book early.
