HAMILTON – The Guelph Royals forced a deciding Game 5 in its quarter-final Intercounty Baseball League opening-round playoff series with the Hamilton Cardinals thanks to an 18-3 win Wednesday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Game 5 goes Friday night in Guelph starting at 7:30 p.m.
If they win, they’ll face Welland in the league semifinals round. If the Cards win, they’ll take on London.
Dalton Pompey set the tone with a home run to lead off the game. He went 4-for-5 and drove in two while scoring six times. Sean Reilly homered twice as part of a four-hit game. He had three RBI and two runs, while Malik Collymore went 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI.
Conner Morro drove in four on three hits, Justin Interisano had two RBI, Darius Barlas had two hits, two runs and an RBI and Ashton Patterson drove in a run and scored three times.
Andrew Case (1-1) went five innings for the win. He gave up three runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Tyler Duncan connected for a two-run blast for Hamilton. Luis Jean went 4-for-5 with an RBI.
Ryan Burnside (0-1) was touched for six runs on seven hits and a walk before being lifted with one out in the fifth.
