Guelph Royals win again

Malik Collymore continues to rip it up at the plate, leading Guelph over London on the weekend

Malik Collymore singled home Conner Morro in the bottom of the ninth to send the Guelph Royals to a 5-4 win over London Saturday night at Hastings Stadium.

Both Collymore and J.D. Williams went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Kyle Kush and Brando Leroux both drove in a run and scored and Jeff MacLeod went 3-for-3 with a run.

Newcomer Andrew Case (1-0) struck out one in a scoreless ninth for the win. Claudio Custodio went eight innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with three walks and 12 punchouts.

Guelph improved to 15-8, good enough for third place in the Intercounty Baseball League standings.

Fernando Fernandez (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits with a walk in the ninth. Starter Owen Boon went 5.1 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Robert Mullen drove in two for the Majors (16-7). Jakob Newton and Cleveland Brownlee each drove in a run.

Guelph plays in Welland on Thursday and will host Brantford on Saturday night.
