The Guelph Storm has rounded out its coaching staff by adding former OHLer and longtime pro Michael Henrich to the staff.

Henrich has been named assistant coach, joining the team after his 13-year professional hockey career.

“We are very pleased to complete our coaching staff with the addition of Michael to our group,” said Storm general manager George Burnett. “We look forward to developing a strong working relationship with both staff and players.”

Henrich was selected in the first round, fifth overall by the Barrie Colts in the 1996 OHL Priority Selection. He went on to play four seasons for the Colts, recording 126 goals, 118 assists for 244 points in 246 games. He served as Barrie’s assistant captain in his final season in Barrie when the Colts won their first OHL Championship in 1999-2000. Henrich was selected in the first round, 13th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

”I am excited to be a part of the Guelph Storm organization and to have the opportunity to work with the team and coaching staff,” said Henrich.

Following his OHL career, Henrich spent four seasons in the American Hockey League, splitting time between the Hamilton Bulldogs, Hershey Bears, and Toronto Roadrunners.  He then spent the next nine seasons playing professional hockey in Europe, including stints in Austria, Germany, Italy, and England.

Henrich joins Burnett and associate coach Chad Wiseman on the bench and will begin working with the team immediately.

Corey Locke and Denver Manderson will be returning to the team as skills development coaches.

Rob Beatty was also added to the coaching staff this summer and enters his first season as the club’s goaltending coach.
