Guelph Storm adds assistant coach

The Guelph Storm has added an assistant coach.

Rob Collins, 44, who was coaching the junior B Elmira Sugar Kings, will be joining new head coach Chad Wiseman and assistant Todd Miller on the Storm bench.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of Rob Collins to our coaching staff. Rob brings a wealth of playing experience and most recently has lead a strong program in Elmira with he GOJHL’s Sugar Kings,” said Storm general manager George Burnett in a news release.  “Rob will focus on work primarily with our forward group, team skill development and our powerplay.”

Collins is joining the Storm from the GOJHL’s Elmira Sugar Kings where he began his coaching career, being named head coach of the club in 2021 after serving as an assistant.

Prior to his coaching career, Collins played for the Sugar Kings for two seasons before playing four seasons at Ferris State University where he was a Hobey Baker Finalist in 2001-02. After graduating from Ferris State, Collins went on to play 16 seasons of professional hockey which included eight games with the NHL’s New York Islanders in the 2005-06 season, parts of five seasons in the AHL split between the Grand Rapids Griffins and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and 11 seasons in Germany’s DEL.
