KITCHENER – The Guelph Storm had to settle or a single point Friday night in Kitchener, despite probably deserving better.

Matt Sopp scored on a penalty shot in overtime, giving the Kitchener Rangers a 3-2 victory.

Sop got behind the Storm defence and broke in on a Damian Slavik on a partial breakaway before being hooked at the last second by Tommy Budnick.

The Storm took a 2-0 lead into the third period thanks to a first period goal by Zander Veccia and a second period goal by Jett Luchanko.

But Filip Mesar made it 2-1 just over four minutes into the third then Sop tied it with 41 seconds left in the third and Rangers goaltender Jackson Parsons on the bench for the extra attacker.

Guelph outshot Kitchener 25-23.

The win snapped Kitchener's five-game losing streak.

The Storm will look to snap its own three-game losing streak Sunday when they host the London Knights in a 4 p.m. start.
