The Guelph Storm will be without the services of veteran winger Zach Poirier for the next 10 games.

Poirier was handed a 10-game suspension by the Ontario Hockey League for his head check on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds' Barrett Hayton last Sunday in the Soo.

He received a five-minute major and game misconduct for the hit, which came early in the third period of the game.

The OHL ruled that the player was in a vulnerable position when the hit was delivered.

Video of the hit can be seen here.

Poirier is eligible to return Nov. 24 when the Storm hosts the Barrie Colts.

The Storm will play three games this weekend: Friday at home versus the Erie Otters, Saturday in Erie, then Sunday at home to the London Knights.
