The Guelph Storm has signed 2019 draft pick Dixon Grimes.

Grimes, a 6-foot-4, 196 lbs goaltender, was the Storm’s 10th round pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the Guelph Jr. Gryphons. He played the 2019-20 season with the junior B Listowel Cyclones.

Grimes, 18, is the son of former Storm associate coach and current Cape Breton Eagles coach Jake Grimes.

He joins Owen Bennett as the other signed goaltender on the team's roster.

“With the anticipation of playing with the club this past season, Dixon has worked closely with our group, participating in all of our regular virtual team sessions and activities,” said Storm general manager and coach George Burnett in a release. “I know he has worked extremely hard and I am certain he will be ready to challenge for a role with the club at training camp.”

In 2019-2020, Grimes quickly built an impressive resume while playing for the Listowel Cyclones of the GOJHL, which included:

· An OHA Top Prospect Award (the last winner of this award from the OHL being former Peterborough Petes standout Hunter Jones)

· Being named to the GOJHL Midwestern All Rookie Team

· A GOJHL Midwestern Goaltender of the Month award for September 2019

· 27 games played which included: 15 W, 6 L, 3 OTL, and 1 Tie

· 2.11 GAA, 0.917 SV%, including one shutout

“With the graduation of veteran goaltenders over the past two seasons, we are looking to add depth at the goaltending position. Dixon had an excellent year of development with the Listowel Cyclones and continued his progress despite the challenges of this past season. We are excited to welcome Dixon and his family to the organization,” said Burnett.
