Guelph United FC leaps into a playoff spot thanks to a strong showing against Burlington SC at home.

It certainly seems like Guelph’s home turf struggles are over as three different players scored to lift Guelph to a 3-1 victory on Sunday night. Forward Owen Sheppard scored his first of the season as he kicked in a cross-net shot by Agyemang just 22 minutes into the game to give Guelph the early lead. Guelph led 1 - 0 at the half.

The second half began with a penalty shot goal for Burlington SC, tying the game at 1 - 1. However, Guelph quickly regained the lead as Jared Agyemang scored his fifth goal in three games off a long ball from goalie Carter Robart just minutes later.

The home team’s final goal of the evening came in extra time as Jack Sears connected with Camilo Vasconcelos to finish off Burlington’s hopes of tying the game up. This would be Vasoncelos’s first goal of the season as a call up from the Reserve team.

With only six games remaining in the regular season, Guelph United is now holding onto one of six playoff spots with a 9 - 3 - 3 record. Their next match will see them back at home on Friday, July 22nd at 7:30 pm as they face off against North Mississauga SC.
