Guelph's Andrea Seccafien shattered the Canadian women's 10,000 metres record Friday night at a meet in Los Angeles.

Seccafien, 30, a graduate of Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School and the University of Guelph who now lives and trains in Australia, won her race in a time of 31 minutes 13.94 seconds. That bettered the old Canadian record held by Natasha Wodak by just over 28 seconds.

It was also well under the qualifying time for this summer's Tokyo Olympics.

She hit the new mark in winning the event at the Sound Running Track Meet.
