Help could be on the way for Guelph Storm (5 photos)

GM George Burnett says 'there should be some news' on the trade front following a 5-2 loss to Windsor

There could be some important new additions to the Guelph Storm on Saturday.

While nothing has been confirmed, Storm general manager George Burnett said it's possible there could be an announcement Saturday as rumours swirled Friday that the Storm was involved in a couple of pending trades.

"There's been some talks. I think there should be some news, but there's nothing I can finalize with you tonight or be certain on tonight. There's still some details to be worked out before we can take the next step," Storm general manager George Burnett said after the game.

The Storm went with a makeshift defence again Friday, including a forward and three rookies, as they fell 5-2 to the Windsor Spitfires.

"Prices are high. Everybody wants the world right now. There's a lot of people kicking tires and people know that you're trying to make your team better and they also know that you're undermanned, so they're also asking for a little extra to help their friends out," Burnett said.

The Storm should have Dmitri Samorukov back early next week from the World Juniors.

"Our blue line is undermanned, as we well know it, and I don't want to have to put these young kids into some tough situations where they're going into some pretty tough rinks over the next couple of weeks."

If there are some new bodies coming to town, it couldn't come at a better time.

"We're asking some young kids to do some pretty special things and take on some monster minutes that's probably a little bit unreasonable at this particular time," Burnett said.

The  Spitfires broke a 2-2 tie on a Jordan Frasca goal late in the second period then added two more in the third to down the Guelph Storm 5-2 at the Sleeman Centre Friday night.

Isaac Ratcliffe and Alexey Toropchenko scored for the Storm.

"I didn't think the effort was poor early. I didn't like the effort after we got behind 4-2 in the third period, but we have to look at the circumstances here a little bit too," Burnett said.

"We spent a lot of time in our own end of the rink tonight and therefore didn't have a whole lot of energy when we did get in the offensive zone.

"I just didn't think we had enough gas left in the third period to generate a whole lot."

Keegan Stevenson took a shot off the leg in the first period and didn't return. He was limping after the game but it didn't appear to be a long-term injury.

On Sunday the North Bay Battalion comes to town.
