Two more wins on weekend for Guelph Royals

BARRIE – Eight runs in the last two innings turned a tight game into a 14-3 Guelph Royals’ win over Barrie Sunday night.

The Royals are now 17-9 on the season and sit in third place in the Intercounty Baseball League, 3 1/2 games back of first place Welland.

Malik Collymore went 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs for Guelph (17-9). Jeff MacLeod went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI, J.D. Williams doubled twice, singled and scored three times, Conner Morro scored twice, Ethan Hammond went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs.

Claudio Custodio (6-0) struck out nine in seven innings on the mound, giving up a run on six hits.

On Saturday, four Royals pitchers combined to two-hit the Brantford Red Sox 9-0 at Hastings Stadium.

Brandon Deans (2-2) started and went five innings, walking three and striking out six while allowing a hit. Evan Kiser followed that with an inning of hitless relief, walking one and striking out one. Daniel Marquez gave up a hit in two innings, walking one and striking out three and Andrew Case struck out two in a hitless ninth.

Morro went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and three runs. Darius Barlas had two RBI and Sean Reilly went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Guelph hosts Hamilton on Tuesday night.
