MELBOURNE, Australia — Former Toronto FC winger Tsubasa Endoh has joined Melbourne City FC, signing a six-month contract with the defending A-League champion.

Melbourne City director of football Michael Petrillo called Endoh a "proven winner" from one of the top teams in the MLS.

“He is very good technically, has an attacking mindset and can play in a few different positions which gives us options as we head into a hectic part of the season, with the added bonus of being an Asian player for the Champions League campaign in April,” Petrillo said in a statement.

Endoh's contract with Toronto expired at the end of the year. TFC made him the ninth overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft from the University of Maryland.

The 28-year-old Japanese native spent six seasons in TFC colours, with 10 goals in 80 appearances in all competitions.

Endoh is one of 15 players from Toronto's first-team squad last year to have left the club with Bob Bradley, Toronto's new coach and sporting director, overhauling a team that went 6-18-10 under two different coaches in 2021.
