Guelph police arrested a second man this week for being reportedly asleep, or passed out, at the wheel of a running vehicle.

Police report that Thursday around 8:41 p.m., they received a complaint from a concerned member of the public regarding a man sleeping in the driver’s seat of motor vehicle stopped facing a green light near the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Edinburgh Road North.

The man woke up after being honked at, accelerated away quickly travelling at a high rate of speed while swerving towards oncoming traffic. The vehicle was also observed swerving to avoid other collisions and curbs, continuing to drive in a dangerous manner, police report.

Police soon located the vehicle parked in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street, and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver failed a roadside breath test on an approved screening device.

A search incident to arrest revealed that the man was in possession of three separate Ontario driver’s licences.

Further investigation revealed that the license plate attached to the motor vehicle was registered to another vehicle.

A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation of a conveyance
  • Blood alcohol concentration 80-plus
  • Possess more than one license
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle

His motor vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.
