The son of Patricia 'Patsy' Lewis has been charged with her murder.
Lawrence 'Larry' Kemp, 44, appeared in a Guelph bail court Friday morning after being charged on Thursday with second degree murder by Guelph police.
Kemp, a slim man with short grey hair and a pale complexion, wore a dark blue coat over a white collared shirt for his brief appearance and was remanded until Dec. 7 for a bail hearing.
There is a publication ban on details surrounding his arrest.
His arrest comes a week after Guelph police indicated they had new information on the case.
Kemp was arrested in Kitchener on Thursday, said Guelph Police in a news release.
He was represented at Friday's appearance by attorney Ranney Hintsa, who indicated she has consulted with Kemp but has not been retained as of yet.
An older man sat alone in the back of the courtroom dabbing his eyes with a tissue during the hearing.
Lewis, 61, was found deceased in her bungalow at 1541 Gordon St. on Sept. 30, 2014 by police, who had gone there to speak to her son on an unrelated matter.
"Over the last four years this team has coupled with other Guelph Police units to continuously and thoroughly investigate Patsy’s death," said Friday's news release from police.
Larry Kemp was arrested later that day but later on the unrelated charges and later released.
On Nov. 22 Guelph police said investigators had recently received new information regarding the murder.
Lewis, 61, was discovered by police responding to a call at the bungalow at 1541 Gordon St., just south of Edinburgh Road, at around 10 a.m. on Sept. 30. No arrests have yet been made in the case.
At the time, Guelph Police said they had gone to the home on an unrelated matter regarding Lewis's son Lawrence (Jason) Kemp, who was arrested later that day on matters unrelated to his mother's murder.
Police later referred to Kemp as "a possible person of interest" although no charges were ever laid against him in connection with her death.
Late last week, Guelph Police provided a video update on the investigation, which said investigators recently received new information on the case.
