A Guelph female arrested last month for twice breaking into a downtown home was arrested again Monday after being found inside the same home.

Just after 9 a.m. Monday, the police were dispatched to an alarm call at the residence, which is owned by a local service agency but currently unoccupied due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officers located a female inside. There was also evidence paperwork and a blanket had been set on fire in the basement, filling the entire residence with smoke. The Guelph Fire Department attended to extinguish a small smouldering fire.

The female had been arrested Oct. 20 and released with a condition not to attend the address.

A 59-year-old Guelph female is charged with break and enter, arson to property and failing to comply with an undertaking. She was held for a bail hearing and released later in the day with terms not to attend the residence and not to possess incendiary devices in public.

Several hours after her release, police were flagged down by a passerby about something on fire in the area of the involved residence. Officers arrived and located the female standing outside the residence near a small smouldering fire.

She was arrested again for two counts of failing to comply with a release order. She will appear in a Guelph bail court again Tuesday.
