Guelph police report that a 34-year-old Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges following a disturbance Tuesday evening at a west end residence.
Shortly before 7 p.m., police were called to an address on Silvercreek Parkway North near Westwood Road. Investigation revealed a female tenant had been repeatedly assaulted by a visitor to her home during a social gathering. It is alleged the man armed himself with kitchen knives during the disturbance. No injuries were reported.
When officers arrived, the man was hiding in the basement. He surrendered and was taken into custody after more than one hour. A search incident to arrest revealed a flip knife, brass knuckles and a small amount of suspected fentanyl.
The man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon, uttering death threats, possessing a controlled substance and breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing.
