A Guelph man was charged with impaired driving Wednesday morning after being rude to a stranger who was trying to help him.

Approximately 11:10 a.m., a man called police to advise he had been trying to help someone get his car out of a snowbank in the area of Farley Drive and Porter Drive. The caller advised he left the scene after the other man was belligerent with him, and that he suspected the driver to be impaired.

Police arrived a short time later and located a man sitting in the driver’s seat of the car, which was still stuck and running. Officers immediately detected a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath and he was arrested.

Testing at the police station confirmed he had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 29-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court March 15.
