A tree at Royal City Park is a little worse for wear after a weekend storm blew through.

The Saturday afternoon storm caused extensive damage throughout the city, including the roof being torn off part of a business, but no reported injuries, say police.

Emergency crews were called to an Edinburgh Road South plaza, near Municipal Street, at about 12:30 p.m. when a portion of roof was torn off the building and tossing into the parking lot, causing extensive damage to at least seven vehicles, notes a news release..

The sudden storm took down trees, limbs and electricity lines throughout the city, leaving many people without power and/or internet for several hours.

A Guelph woman escaped injury after a large tree fell on her car as she drove in the area of Lemon Street and Ardmay Crescent.

During a one-hour period on Saturday, from noon to 1 p.m., police received more than 120 calls, most reporting damage related to the storm.
