Breaking into car nets Guelph man 21 separate charges

Incident happened last month but arrest made Tuesday

A Guelph man faces a host of charges related to an early morning car break-in at a residential parking garage earlier this month.

Guelph Police report that on Nov. 8 at 4:16 a.m. a man entered a residential building without permission in Downtown Guelph, went to the parking garage, smashed the driver side rear window of a vehicle and took a black backpack containing Beats headphones, Reebok running shoes and gym clothes.

The approximate total value of the stolen items is $400 and the estimated cost to repair the window is $300.

The man then attempted to smash the passenger side rear window of another vehicle but failed. He did damage the car window to the tune of $300.

The person then left the building.

On Tuesday at 11:40 a.m. the suspect was arrested outside a downtown building.

A search incident to arrest located:

- 0.19 grams of blue Fentanyl (value of $80)

- 1.1 grams of illicit dried Cannabis (value of $15)

- Extendable baton

- Stolen Dell 5480 black laptop

- Stolen brass award medal

- Multiple stolen financial cards

- Multiple stolen identity cards

- Stolen membership card

- Stolen rewards card

- Stolen keys for a motor vehicle and a residence

A 26-year-old Guelph man was charged with:

- Break, enter and commit

- theft under $5,000

- Mischief under $5,000

- Possession of a controlled substance (Fentanyl)

- Four counts of possession of stolen credit card

- Possession of stolen identity documents

- Six counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000

- Carry concealed weapon

- Possess illicit cannabis

- Four counts of breach probation

He was held in custody for a Wednesday bail hearing.
